Summer Honors Program, It was founded in 1987 by cofounder Cindy Andersen and Gifted Coordinator Rod Smith.

Summer Honors started out with only forty students and was the only year that there were no tuition at Summer Honors.

The Program grew quickly and became very successful in just a couple of years. By 1989, ninety students attended.

In only a few years SHP has become a major program and one of the first of its kind.
