Safety Activities

1. Make a poster to show what you should do to protect yourself in the event of a flood.

2. A flood warning has just been issued for your area. You have 30 minutes to leave your home. List the thing you would do and what you would take with you.

3. After making a list of the things you would take with you when you leave your home in response to a flood warning, compare your list with a list made by your friend. Discuss why you chose certain items or things to save from the flood. Give reasons for your choices.

4. After a flood many things are lost due to water damage. Calculate the cost for replacing the items normally found in your closet if you lost most of it in a flood.

5. Write a letter to someone who has experienced a flood recently or in the past. Ask them what they think they should have done differently in their emergency situation.

6. Write and perform a skit to teach other children about flood safety. Perform it for the other students in your school.

7. Create a flood safety survey. See how aware people in your town are of what they should do during a flood alert or warning.

8. Write an article for the local newspaper to remind people in your community of things they should do to protect themselves from losses in a flooding situation.
