PIECING YOUR CAREER

In Piecing Your Career, students will be exploring career opportunities in various communities, learning the necessary skills required for a specific career, interviewing professionals about their career while using the internet, and discovering careers of the future. The project is designed to enhance a career curriculum for students grades 6-10, but can be adapted for students at any grade level.

Each piece of the wheel links to different career related activities. The activities are designed to be completed in approximately 10 class sessions or the project can be expanded for futher learning, and the activities can be completed in any order.

The 'Surface' of Alaska

In The 'Surface' of Alaska Project, students communicated with Bill Surface, a recently retired teacher from Hildreth, NE, who travelled to Alaska in August and September, 1996. He stayed in an extremely remote location and students had the opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Surface, as well as read about his experiences.

This project began August 1996, and ended in September1996, but the information is still available to read to help aid any curriculum you would like to apply it to
