TRANSITION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY is a four year project for high school transition students which provides opportunities to develop vocational and interpersonal skills through computer activities.
The first year project, OUR DAY, targets career interest. Some of the activities include filling out job applications, time cards, work summaries and participating in job shadowing. Students also go through a job interview with an employer.
The second year project, MY JOB, builds on the skills and activities from the first year, and continues in the areas of work exploration. It includes computer activities of community awareness, student interest profiles, and variety of job shadowing experiences.
The third year project, JOB CLUB, continues the program and adds computer activities that lead to being informed consumers, living on your own and making decisions. It encourages self exploration in the area of work ethic and students begin to set personal goals in the area of career development. Students also assess work skills that match work interests.
The fourth year project, WORLD OF WORK, allows students to communicate electronically with Nebraska Job Service. They can actually become clients of Job Service viva Internet from their schools. They complete actual employment application, and may seek full time or part time employment. They complete resume worksheets with become personal resumes. This project bring together the skill, interests and qualifications students need in order to be employed.
Appropriate vocational assessment are conducted with each of the project to give students pertinent information necessary for career development.
